Methodology

The methodology of M.EL.O.S Project, its main sections, as well as the phases with the deliverables.

It has a duration of 9 months and includes 9 subsections/phases and 9 deliverables, one for each phase. It will contain a series of scientific investigations that will capture the current situation in the field of musical collections, as well as, the goals and actions must be carried out in order to implement M.EL.O.S. Project.

These deliverables are:

  • P1.1: Study of international standards and best practices in the field of musicology, librarianship and archives management.
  • P1.2: Feature extraction model from music surface content.
  • P1.3: Semantic model, ontology and metadata schema of musical collections of M.EL.O.S.
  • P1.4: Study on policies for development, operation and interconnectivity of M.EL.O.S collaborative network.
  • P1.5: Study on crowdsourcing policies and development of a collaborative community for M.EL.O.S Project.
  • P1.6: Study on interface specifications with third-party open public interconnected repositories.
  • P1.7: Study on intellectual rights’ management.
  • P1.8: Study on mapping old metadata schemas to new ones.
  • P1.9: Website of the project for participants’ co-ordination and crowdsourcing.

The main objective of this section is the adaptation and installation of the ReasonableGraph platform as the basic management platform of the M.EL.O.S Project, both at the level management level of TAMOSs and the management level of KeMKA. The process of adapting the RG platform will cover all its functions, so that all the special features of the defined music ontology can be captured in it, as well as the specific requirements of the music collections that will be contained in the M.EL.O.S Project.

The deliverables of this section are:

  • P2.1: Local Music Ontology Repository (TAMO) of Department of Music Studies of University of Ioannina.
  • P2.2: Local Music Ontology Repository (TAMO) of University of Macedonia.
  • P2.3: Local Music Ontology Repository (TAMO) of Music Library of the “Friends of Music Society”.
  • P2.4: Central Music Authority Archive (KeMKA) and connection with TAMOs.
  • P2.5: Evaluation of TAMOs and KeMKA installation.
  • P2.6: Crowdsourcing support functions on RG platform.
  • P2.7: Publication of the musicological conclusions about augmented ontologies.
  • P2.8: Tools of semantic enrichment for web pages.
  • P2.9: Published announcement including the first results of the co-operative network M.EL.O.S.
  • P2.10: Published announcement about the selected ontology and the crowdsourcing services provided.
  • P2.11: Evidence of participation in 2 library science conferences.

Includes 12 subsections/phases and 12 deliverables, one for each phase.
These 12 deliverables are:

  • P3.1: Report on the transfer of metadata of the musical collections related to the project from old systems to TAMOs and KeMKA.
  • P3.2: Training documents and training material for supporting the research team of M.EL.O.S. Project.
  • P3.3: Workshop organization material (presentations, agenda, reports, photos)
  • P3.4: Enriched cultural reserve of music collection “Greek Archive of Double bass E. Politi” of the PAMAK library.
  • P3.5: Enriched cultural reserve of music collection “Vassilis Tsitsanis Collection of Recordings” of PI-TMS.
  • P3.6: Enriched cultural reserve of music collection “Mikis Theodorakis Archive” of Music Library of Greece “Lilian Voudouri”.
  • P3.7: Implementation of crowdsourcing policies at KeMKA, community operation/support.
  • P3.8: Report on semantically enriched web content development.
  • P3.9: Evidence of participation in 2 scientific conferences on music.
  • P3.10: Four published announcements related to the final results of the M.EL.O.S. Project.
  • P3.11: Financial audit of a Chartered Accountant.
  • P3.12: Documents from the organization of a scientific conference on musical ontologies.

The last two sections will determine the steps for the commercial exploitation of the project and will make the first contacts towards the market for the availability of its products and services. In the Commercial Feasibility Study (P4.1), a series of reports (such as an economic and technical report, market etc.) will be developed that will determine the best way to promote the products and services of the project. The commercial diffusion of the project’s products (P5.1) includes participation in international exhibitions.
